First, some resources that I created:
Milkweed for Monarch Butterflies
I created a page to share my tips on how to host a Milkweed for Monarchs event! It's easy! This page has everything you need to know and pdfs you are free to use.
And here's some from others:
Macrobiotics, Health, and Local Food
If you are a beginner looking for a book to start with, I recommend The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics by Jessica Porter. It is very good even if you aren't a "chick." I like her easy-to-read take on yin-yang philosophy and George Ohsawa's theorems. There are some tasty recipes too!
Macrobiotics Today Magazine This magazine, in continuous publication since the 1960s, is now published online. Editor, Carl Ferre, is incredibly committed to this cause, and does an excellent job of fielding articles new and old. There are 5 issues are year. Subscriptions are FREE. Back issues can be ordered for about $4. Once you subscribe you will get regular invites to free online forums and discussions on macrobiotic topics. A wonderful resource.
Ginat Rice is the woman behind the Rice House and the Whole Health Macrobiotic Forum. In addition to being an excellent speaker herself, she offers a treasure trove of macrobiotic knowledge from guest speakers around the world, all for free! I highly suggest you get on her mailing list and subscribe to her youtube if you want to learn about a variety of health, food, and mind-expanding topics!
Here is a video that just makes me smile. Sandy Pukel is a longtime macro teacher, but you don't have to know anything about macrobiotics to get inspired by this talk called Taking Responsibility
If you aren't able to find high quality foods in your local brick and mortar stores, I suggest ordering from Eden Foods. Not only are their standards + purity exceptional, but I have ordered liquids in glass bottles from them many times and never had breakage! Highly recommend! This video is an interview with founder and President, Michael Potter that really shows how much integrity he and his company have!
For those residing on the Southcoast of Massachusetts or Rhode Island, here is a handy resource for finding local food and farmers markets!
Full Moon Feast by Jessica Prentice is an excellent and enjoyable read! I liked it so much I started an online book group about it! If you read it I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Where to Buy Books
I do whatever it takes not to buy anything from Amazon. I still believe that "voting" with your dollar has much further reaching results than voting any other way. If you want to see small businesses and bookstores thrive, don't buy from Amazon. There are probably local booksellers near you, but here are a few online retailers I like:
abebooks.com This is a pluthera of many independent book sellers. There's lots of used and rare books. I have used Abe dozens of times in search of rare, out of print, macrobiotic books. You can set alerts to receive an email notification when a certain title, author, or publisher is listed!
powells.com This is an incredible store in Portland, Oregon. If you are ever there, make a trip to Powell's, it's worth it! They have an excellent online store including their entire used book selection. If you are looking for new books, they offer pre-orders and the latest publications just like Amazon does.
chelseagreen.com When I look at my shelves there are SO many books from Chelsea Green Publishing. They print tons of great titles on homesteading, health, fermentation, farming, and much more. My favorite independent publisher.
Crystals
I was very fortunate to get to take a few online classes with Hibiscus Moon before she retired. Luckily her website is still there, jammed with excellent crystal information. I am so glad I found Hibiscus because her approach to crystals is the only one that makes sense to me. I'm one of those people that has to know WHY. She knows metaphysics, she knows science, she walks the walk and is the real deal in my opinion. Her YouTube channel has tons of content and I have spent many hours watching and listening to it.Â
I hope to publish my own book about crystals in the next year or two.
