a student and a teacher fascinated by macrobiotics, the order of the universe, the energy of food and the earth. friend to all microbes.
Here's a bit more about me:
Guiding Principles
When I put on the magic spectacles, I became a lifelong student of Macrobiotics and the Order of the Universe. Once the writings of George Ohsawa and Michio Kushi opened my eyes to oneness and the Unique Principle, observing yin-yang in nature & daily life became my greatest endeavor alongside understanding the energy of food.
Ohsawa's non-credo philosophy is a tenet I continue striving to accomplish, holding my own lived experience as truth, always questioning, and never falling into dogma or blind faith.
I have had many teachers, most notably Carol Louro of the New Bedford East West Center, and Edward Esko of the International Macrobiotic Institute, from which I graduated all three levels.
My online course Eating with the Elements was created to bring together eating seasonal food, physical health, emotional balance, and the Five Elements based on macrobiotic principles. I have been published in Macrobiotics Today magazine, been a featured speaker on the Rice House Whole Health Forum, and the 2024 Macrobiotic Winter Conference.
Eating local food will change your life, mind, body and spirit.
"My whole life had been spent waiting for an epiphany, a manifestation of God's presence, the kind of transcendent, magical experience that let's you see your place in the big picture. And that is what I had with my first [compost] heap. I love compost and believe in it with every fiber (so to speak) of my being. I believe that composting can save, not the entire world, but a good portion of it."

Crystals
It's hard to believe now, but I began as a hardcore crystal energy skeptic. But, when I began learning about crystals, I found out that within their atomic structure, the very fiber of their being, they contain sacred geometry, spiral growth patterns, and mirror the order of the universe itself. I began to see them not just as objects, but as a beautiful part of nature to discover, appreciate, and be one with. Just like the plants in the ground, the wind in the air, the currents in the ocean, and the planets in the solar system, crystals are yet another way to observe the order of the universe, the law of god, from right here on earth.
In 2021 I began teaching Crystal Meditation workshops, where participants were led on a guided meditation while holding a crystal wrapped up in paper so they couldn't see it. I guided them to get in touch with how the stone was making them feel. The synchronicity in everyone's experiences was incredible! I have now led hundreds of Crystal Meditations and taught on a number of related topics.
Fermentation
In addition to making food more delicious and more nutritious, the microbes behind it are another example of nature's order repeated on every scale. The joy I receive making pickles, nurturing kefir grains, and from all my other bubbling jars around my kitchen is unlike any other. I care deeply for my microbial brothers and sisters, talk to them (occasionally sing to them) and am in awe of what they do to food everyday. My water kefir grains are over 15 years old! I have several long-term pickles going at any given time, have made miso, nukadoko, mead, champagne, and many other ferments over the years.
I started teaching Water Kefir and Perpetual Pickle Jar workshops in 2024 and hope to do many more, sharing the microbial love as much as I can!
"The word fermentation has another connotation, as well. Ideas ferment, as they spread and mutate and inspire movements for change... As you watch your fermenting food bubble away as bacteria and yeast work their transformative magic, envision yourself as an agent for change, creating agitation and unrest, releasing bubbles of transformation into the social order... Draw inspiration from the action of bacteria and yeast, and make your life a transformative process."

Knowledge Sharing
After teaching my first workshop in 2021, I found true elation and joy from sharing what I am most passionate about with others. I will always be a student first and foremost because the more I learn, the more there is for me to learn! There is no end to the new ideas and subjects that teach me about life and the universe itself. I offer in-person and online classes on a variety of topics.
